Fun at the zoo – Halloween style!
“The quizzical expression of the monkey at the zoo comes from his wondering whether he is his brother’s keeper, or his keeper’s brother”
– Evan Esar
WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS WAAAAY TOO MANY PICTURES, and most of you will get bored. . .you have been warned.
The Saturday before Halloween, Puffy, her dad, and I attended a Halloween event at our local zoo. It was called ZooBoo, and there was much crafting, trick-or-treating, and Halloween-related festivities. And, of course, the actual zoo. The day dawned gray and dreary, with a 90% chance of thunderstorms. Which in MY opinion is PERFECT zoo-trippy weather, as you know if you read the post about our first trip this year. The place was empty. We were there for about 2 hours before we ever saw another patron. It was awesome! We didn’t do much of the arts-n-crafts – mostly because we’ve done ’em all already, but Puff did trick-or-treat, and play some of the kiddy games. A good time was had by all. . . even, possibly, her father! He brought his camera along, too. Most of the animal photos were taken by him.
Puff races to greet Clifford with a big monkey hug!
All the animals were getting ready for Halloween, even in the petting zoo!
Puff pats the goats who were not busy with pumpkin carving
The usual suspects were all present, as expected. . .
him. . .
these dudes. . .
who were hungry, of course. . .
this guy. . .(who wasn’t)
them. . .times two
Puff visits her cousins. . .who had been given rolls of toilet paper in honor of Halloween.
The turtles were making themselves very known, too. . .
Tiny turtles. . .
play turtles. . .
giant turtles. . .
. . .and wooden ones with monkey-heads.
Birds were making themselves very obvious, too. . .
there were pirate birds. . .
And Puffy birds in giant nests. . .
Cereal birds!
Puff tried to catch this one, but he was “too tall” for her to reach
Spooky Halloween ‘birds’
and REAL birds, too!
Puff loves crossing the rope bridge
With so few people about the zoo’s REAL wildlife came out. And promptly ran away. . .
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:
With so few people about, T was overjoyed to finally see a child of her own size walk past. She walked right over to her and gave her a GIANT hug! The other little girl didn’t mind, and hugged Puff right back (though her parents looked a smidge nervous for a few seconds). After they separated, the little girl decided that she wanted another, and proceeded to give PUFF a hug!
C’mon, lets say it together; AWWWWWWWWW!
And when we passed those $.25 distance viewer things, T stopped dead in her tracks, looked up in awe, and in a voice filled with wonder and amazement said;
“LOOK. . .its a ROBOT!!!“
She then proceeded to show her love for all things robotic by bestowing said ‘robot’ with several rounds of hugs and kisses.
The playing of games was a new experience for our little Puffy one, one which she seemed to enjoy. . .
. . . but the picking of prizes was far more fun! Jumping spiders, anyone?
And last, but never least, comes the gobbling of the trick-or-treats!
and she always shares!

What a great time!! I’m so glad that it didn’t rain ya’ll out and I wish we lived close enough to have gone with! We didn’t have nearly the fun that you did and we trick-or-treated two nights in a row. hmph.
