Furlough. . .

“I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues.”

T hugs a tree. Because she loves it.

I fear that September has quite gotten away from me, and I must apologize for that. This month has been riddled with sick babies, exhausted (and trying not to be sick) mommas, and lots of running about making deadlines. But it hasn’t ALL been rough-and-tumble and getting stuff done. . .

T attempts escape during a hike. She failed.

One of the highlights of September has ever been my birthday, which marks the Autumnal Equnox (and which I share with Bilbo and Frodo Baggins) A ten-odd year tradition (excepting the year that T was only 3 months old) of mine – and now of my family – is to head out to the wilderness for a happy birthday camping trip. Late September marks the perfect time for this event; The leaves are still on the trees, but are beginning to change into their vibrant autumn hues, the days are warm – but not hot, and the evenings become cool enough to warrant sleeping bags and campfires, the lack of mosquitoes is an added bonus – especially to me and my T, whom they devour at any oppurtunity. We don’t go nearly as far into the wilds with our little one in tow as we did before she came along, but we all have a wonderful time nonetheless…

Puff likes tents. Just not sleeping in them.

This year marks the second in which my Wee Puffy One has accompanied us on my yearly voyage. She loves it. And really, what toddler wouldn’t? Staying outside, playing under the trees for days on end. . .digging in the dirt and finding all sorts of new bugs to learn about. . .

It is important to get to know the local wildlife.

. . . no naptime interruptions, gobbling marshmallows, s’mores, and hot-dogs on demand – while swigging hot cocoa like a drunkard.

Gobbling S’mores in my cupcake hat – an awesome gift from Apok & fam.

everyone loves to potty outside under the trees . . .

T & potties with a camel, turtle, and a chicken

. . .and, in general, just letting it all hang out.

Peekaboo!

What kid could ask for more than this paradise?

One thing I always wonder about babies is what they think about things. Mine generally appears to take the oddness of her family in stride, but I can’t figure out if she just assumes grown folk to be totally unhinged, loony, and nonsensical in every way. . .or does it simply not occur to her to ponder it at all? Does she constantly question why we’re doing the odd things we do? From her perspective, packing up a ton of stuff and living in the woods for a period of time must be a bit. . .random. And though I know that Puff had a super fab time, I have to ask; wasn’t a part of her thinking that we had lost our minds?!

So cute! Camping is really fun with little ones, but it would be something to know what they think we’re doing when we do it!

I think it’s great that you’re able to take a yearly camping trip! I most definitely would if I could, but…alas, I cannot for we do not have the necessary equipment. Aka a tent for one…marshmallows for another, though we DO have graham crackers. 😉 The pictures are great and it looks like, once again, Little Miss T had a wonderful time.
