first snow

“The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?”

– J. B. Priestley

Ro had her first experience with snow this week!

It took me forever to convince her that she did, in fact, have no choice but to wear (and not eat) big sister’s 2 sizes too big hand-me-down boots, and have her tiny fingers covered with fuzzy white mittens (end of the world). Once we got past the required bundling and actually made it through the front door (about an hour later) SHE. WAS. THRILLED!

I can’t even imagine what she thought about seeing the world covered in glistening white, but her excitement was overwhelming! She only got to stay out for around 15 minutes or so, but during that time she kept up a steady stream of questioning ‘ssssit?’ ‘eedat?’ ‘eeaahsssst?’ (translation: what is that?/see that?/what is it? – or something along those lines!)

There were many attempts to gather up a bit of the stuff with gloved fingers and (of course) take a little taste. . . these were met with mixed results.

The bulk of the bundles prevented her from really moving around too much (I should try this technique next time I cook dinner), so she found new ways to examine the snow up close – and even got a bit of a lick this way!

She liked it!
