“My two favorite colors of the rainbow are gold and leprechaun.”
– Jarod Kintz
When I saw the adorable pot of gold craft at Make and Takes, I knew that we just had to make one! Our version was mini, because we still have a few of these itty bitty terra-cotta pots lying around just begging to be turned into something adorable. . .
First the painting, which is the very best part of ANY kiddy craft. . . of course.
Since our pots were soooooo teensy, I was thinking that our ‘gold’ could just be glitter on top of yellow pom-pom balls (in the larger version they used gold-wrapped candy). Then the little miss said “MOMMY! I HAVE SOME GOLD!!!” She raced off into her room, and returned bearing a couple of her necklaces left over from Mardi Gras. Brilliant! We only needed one!
Then came the rainbow. We cut each pipe cleaner slightly smaller than the one before, so that each in line could be seen from the front. This was VERY tricky for T. She did it, but it took a couple of tries and a lot of hot glue.
“Mom. . .I think our pot of gold needs a leprechaun.”
Duh.
We made this little dude in the same way as we did our terra cotta snowman friends. Only we cut a large-sized orange pom-pom in half for the hair and beard. *giggle* T said he needed a hat, and I agreed. She suggested felt (she is getting so GOOD at this stuff!) and I obliged.
T and her new friend, no doubt dreaming of the rainbow’s end. . .
Aren’t they CUTE?!!
This project was definitely hands-on for mommy, as we used the hot glue gun quite a bit. It was not an easy craft, but T managed to do most of it by herself, and I really think that this is one of the MOST adorable things we’ve ever made together! I really just love these mini terra-cotta pot crafts!

T’s contribution of gold was innovative… she’s taking after her mother!

how fantastic. I saw the pot on your table and had stupidly assumed you’d made it.
And really you and T are too clever.
