“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.”
- Norman Vincent Peale
On the day after Thanksgiving, we women of the house decorate the tree. Last year, T got to help for the very first time. This year, we had a brand-new first-time helper, and T has become the seasoned pro of the house. . .
The fascination generated by so many tiny lightbulbs was shared equally by both of my little elves, and I couldn’t help but take too many pictures of their little glowing faces before rescuing (and untangling) the strands.
This little goof has been obsessed with my Santa hat for a long, long time, and she’s always looked beyond adorable in it!
Most of the actual decorating happened after Ro went to bed (which is why there are so many more pictures of T). The not-so-easy-to-break ornaments were hooked and put out for T to hang, and she ever so carefully put them up, taking time to find the exact right spot on the tree for each. Sometimes it also happened to be the exact right spot for several other ornaments. . . and sometimes several of the same ornament were hung on the same branch. I love watching her mad design skills in action!
While she was up, Robee kept busy finding (and tasting) all the new Christmas toys, crawling around, and in general making the most adorable nuisance of herself that the world has ever seen – and having the time of her little life!
Little Dewdrop can spot contraband from a mile away on a boring day, and with all the sparkle and shine and boxes of things, she was in naughty baby heaven! We kept a close eye on her and, much to her delight, allowed her to roam about freely and explore for a bit before settling her down for a long winter’s nap.
And in the end, I had the most beautiful and fabulously decorated tree the world has ever seen. . . from the waist down!
