“Life is tough enough without having someone kick you from the inside.”

– Rita Rudner
At my last visit to the midwife’s office, I convinced her that I really, really, really NEEDED an ultrasound to check the growth and position of Robaby – “growth and position” obviously being code words for gender. She teased me for a while about it (“Cantcha just wait 7 more weeks?!!”) But in the end I left her office with a new ‘script for a sonogram.
See the little white arrow to the left of the word 'girl?'
Ro, as usual, was not being very cooperative. She is in fetal position, with her head down and facing my spine. According to the technician, her face is ‘smooshed up against the placenta with no fluid around it,’ so a clear shot was difficult – she tried for a very long time to get the one we have.
As for the gender. . .  it was kind of weird! The tech kept saying things like;
“It’s really hard to tell from the position the baby is in. . .”
and then say:
“There’s the labia!”
but then follow it up with:
“I can’t be sure, but if I had to guess, I’d say its a girl.”
I can not for the life of me figure out what on earth is going on in that picture, and believe me I’ve tried. Apparently bottom up, legs and head down is an awkward position for the viewing of the girly-bits. But the technician was confident enough to put things like ‘fem’ and ‘girl’ on that image, so I’ll take it! A sister it is!
T is still insisting that she’s having a brudder, but she’ll get over it, I’m sure. . .
And as far as the tech would/could tell us, everything looks good! Baby is measuring a week ahead (they’ve been saying this for over a month now), and they’re putting the weight at around 5 pounds. The average weight for a baby at 33 weeks is 4.5 pounds, so we’re looking great (keep in mind that estimating a baby’s weight by ultrasound is NOT a very reliable science, and is often very inaccurate)!
I’ve been busy getting ready for her arrival! The cradle is set up, as is the changing table, which is full of freshly washed itty bitty outfits. All the diapers are washed and ready-to-go, too! My darling husband refused to take the car seat out to the car (HE says its way to early – harumph!), but it IS out of hiding, and readily accessible for when we need it!
33 weeks and counting. . .
